The Premium AI Plan Showdown Nobody Asked For (But Everyone Needs)
I just finished a 30-day test of all three premium AI subscriptions: Claude Max ($100/month), ChatGPT Pro ($200/month), and Gemini Ultra ($250/month). Total spent: $900. Here’s which one I’m keeping โ and which two are getting cancelled.
The Test Methodology
I ran 50 identical tasks across all three platforms:

- 10 code generation tasks (full-stack web apps)
- 10 content writing tasks (2000+ word articles)
- 10 data analysis tasks (real business datasets)
- 10 research tasks (market analysis reports)
- 10 creative tasks (ad copy, social media, scripts)
Each task was scored on: accuracy, speed, creativity, and “would I actually use this output without editing?”
Results by Category
Code Generation: Claude Max Wins (9.2/10)
Claude Opus 4 is simply the best coding model available right now. It understood complex architectures, wrote clean code on the first try, and handled debugging like a senior engineer. GPT-5.4 scored 8.1, Gemini 3 Ultra scored 7.8.
Content Writing: Tie Between Claude and ChatGPT (8.5/10 each)
Both produce high-quality, natural-sounding content. Claude edges ahead on long-form (3000+ words) while ChatGPT is better at punchy short-form copy. Gemini scored 7.2 โ still feels robotic.

Data Analysis: Gemini Ultra Wins (9.0/10)
Google’s integration with Sheets and BigQuery gives Gemini an unfair advantage here. It handled complex datasets with ease and produced beautiful visualizations. Claude scored 8.3, ChatGPT scored 7.9.
Research: Claude Max Wins (9.4/10)
Claude’s extended context window and reasoning capabilities make it the best research assistant. It synthesized information from multiple sources, identified contradictions, and produced actionable insights. ChatGPT: 8.0, Gemini: 8.5.
Creative: ChatGPT Pro Wins (8.8/10)
For ad copy, social media content, and creative scripts, ChatGPT still has the edge. It’s more willing to take creative risks and produces more varied outputs. Claude: 8.2, Gemini: 7.0.

The Verdict: My $100/Month Pick
Winner: Claude Max ($100/month)
Here’s why:
- Best overall quality across all categories (average: 8.72/10)
- Half the price of ChatGPT Pro, 40% cheaper than Gemini Ultra
- Claude Code alone justifies the subscription for developers
- Extended thinking mode produces genuinely better reasoning
What About ChatGPT Pro?
At $200/month, it’s hard to justify unless you specifically need DALL-E, Sora integration, or the ChatGPT ecosystem (custom GPTs, etc.). The quality gap doesn’t match the 2x price premium.
What About Gemini Ultra?
Only worth it if you’re deep in the Google ecosystem. The data analysis capabilities are genuinely impressive, but at $250/month? Most people can get 90% of the value from the $20 Gemini Advanced plan.
The Cost-Per-Quality-Point Breakdown
Claude Max: $100/month รท 8.72 avg score = $11.47 per quality point
ChatGPT Pro: $200/month รท 8.28 avg score = $24.15 per quality point
Gemini Ultra: $250/month รท 7.90 avg score = $31.65 per quality point
Claude Max delivers more than 2x the value per dollar compared to the competition.
