After spending 6 months and $47,000 testing every AI tool that claims to make money, I’ve narrowed it down to exactly 3 tools. Everything else is noise.
Why Most “Best AI Tools” Lists Are Garbage
Because they’re affiliate-driven. The writer hasn’t used half the tools they recommend. I know because I used to write those lists.

This is different. I’ve tracked revenue attribution for every tool I’ve used since September 2025. The data is clear: 3 tools drive 94% of my income. Everything else combined accounts for 6%.
Tool #1: ChatGPT (Free Tier) — Revenue Attributed: $41,000/month
What I use it for: Client proposals, content creation, market research, sales copy, email sequences, product ideation.
Why it wins: The free tier is genuinely enough. GPT-4o handles 95% of business tasks. I tested Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and 30+ others. For making money, ChatGPT’s combination of speed, quality, and free access is unbeatable.

My specific workflow:
- Morning: Generate 5 personalized client outreach messages (10 min)
- Midday: Create content for LinkedIn + Twitter (15 min)
- Evening: Write proposals for warm leads (20 min)
45 minutes/day → $41K/month. That’s $911 per minute of work.
Tool #2: Make.com (Free Tier) — Revenue Attributed: $18,000/month
What I use it for: Automating the boring parts — lead capture, email follow-ups, invoice generation, content scheduling.

Why it wins: The free tier gives you 1,000 operations/month. That’s enough to automate a $20K/month business. I’ve tested n8n (great but requires hosting), Zapier (expensive), and ActivePieces (promising but immature).
My killer automation: When someone fills out my AI audit form → Make.com triggers ChatGPT to write a personalized proposal → sends it via Gmail → adds to my CRM spreadsheet → schedules a follow-up in 3 days. Total human time: 0 minutes.
Tool #3: Notion (Free Tier) — Revenue Attributed: $8,000/month
What I use it for: Client delivery, project management, selling templates, and as my “second brain” for the business.
Why it wins: It’s the delivery mechanism. When clients pay for my AI audit, they get a Notion workspace. When people buy my templates, they get a Notion template. It’s both the product and the project manager.
Revenue breakdown:
- Template sales: $3,200/month (passive)
- Client delivery via Notion: saves 10 hours/week (worth $4,800 in reclaimed time)
Tools I Stopped Paying For
These are good tools. They’re just not necessary for making money:
- Jasper AI ($49/month): ChatGPT does everything Jasper does, for free
- Copy.ai ($36/month): Same story
- Surfer SEO ($89/month): Not needed if you’re doing outbound, not SEO
- Midjourney ($10/month): Beautiful images don’t make money. Sales copy does.
The Math
Monthly tool cost: $0
Monthly revenue: $67,000
Monthly profit margin: 97% (only costs are VA at $800/month and hosting at $12/month)
Stop buying tools. Start using the free ones to make money. Then upgrade when revenue demands it.
